Individual Therapy

Individual therapy can be useful when you feel stuck in familiar patterns, are struggling to understand yourself or your relationships, or are moving through a period of significant change.  I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related difficulties, relationship concerns, self-esteem and shame, and questions about identity and sexuality.  My approach is collaborative and person-centered. I bring curiosity to the room rather than assumptions about what your life should look like. Together, we can explore both the history that shaped you and the possibilities available to you now.

Couples Therapy

Relationships can be simultaneously wonderful, difficult, deeply intimate, and occasionally baffling.  I work with couples who want to strengthen their relationship, understand recurring patterns, repair ruptures, or navigate difficult conversations about sex, commitment, trust, family, and the future.  I draw from attachment-based approaches and concepts developed by John and Julie Gottman and Esther Perel, among others. I am particularly interested in helping couples understand the cycle they get caught in rather than locating the problem in one person.  My aim is not to determine who is right. It is to help both people become more understood, more accountable, and more capable of creating the relationship they actually want.

More than Two

For people practicing ethical non-monogamy, it can sometimes benefit more than two partners to attend therapy all together for purposes such as clarifying agreements and boundaries, setting or expanding limits, and generating more understanding and empathy.  In group sessions as well as couples sessions, I work to ensure people are hearing each other correctly and stating what they mean clearly.

My approach

My clinical style is warm, curious, direct, and collaborative. I believe that understanding why we do something is valuable, but that insight becomes much more useful when it creates new choices.

Depending on your needs, I incorporate approaches and concepts from:

  • Attachment theory

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Somatic and body-oriented approaches

  • EMDR

  • Sensorimotor psychotherapy

  • Mindfulness

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

  • Reality therapy

  • Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

  • Gottman-informed couples therapy

  • Contemporary sex therapy and sexuality research

I practice from a person-centered, anti-oppressive, and intersectional feminist framework. I strive to remain aware of the ways culture, gender, power, privilege, trauma, and social expectations can shape our experiences of ourselves and our relationships.  At the same time, I don't believe a theoretical framework should be imposed on a client. Your lived experience is the starting point.

A little about me

My path into counseling began with nursing. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and practiced as a registered nurse in Alaska from 2007 through 2021.

Around 2012, I became increasingly fascinated by the emerging research and clinical work surrounding sexuality, intimacy, and sex therapy. What began as a professional curiosity eventually became a second career. I completed a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and launched my private counseling practice in 2020.

My nursing background continues to influence the way I practice. I value science, curiosity, and a whole-person understanding of the human experience. I also remain deeply interested in psychology, relationships, sexuality, attachment, trauma, and the ways our bodies and minds communicate with one another.

My continuing education includes training through AASECT, EMDR training, and training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Most importantly, I don't expect you to arrive at therapy already knowing exactly what is wrong or what you need to change. We can be curious about it together.
